Kunkeshwar is a beautiful and sacred place located on the coast of Kokan in the Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra, specifically in the Devgad Taluka, known for its Alphonso mangoes.
Must-Visit Locations
- Kunkeshwar Temple: A beautiful and জাগ্রुत (awakened) temple of Lord Shiva situated by the sea. It is considered the "Kashi of South Kokan". The Shivling is "swayambhu" (self-originated). Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj renovated this temple. The sanctum sanctorum is on an upper floor, accessible from the main hall. The temple is right next to the beach.
- Kunkeshwar Beach: A clean and serene beach located right next to the Kunkeshwar Temple. Features white sand and clear water.
- Pokharbav Temple (Dabhole): Another beautiful temple (dedicated to Lord Ganesh and Shiva) located near a stream of water. The water flows by the steps of the Shiva temple. Located 10 km from Kunkeshwar on the Achara-Devgad road, in Dabhole. The Shiva temple features a natural Shivaling in a Panchmukhi (five-faced) stone. The surrounding nature offers a peaceful and divine atmosphere. The stream has clear water with small fish.
- Lotus Lake (near Maphan): A large lake filled with white and red lotuses, located near Maphan.
- Sateri Devi Temples: There are 79 Sateri Devi temples in the Sindhudurg district. The temples have large anthills next to the deity.
